Commonwealth Games 2026: Raja Muthupandi wins silver in weightlifting, India gets fourth medal

Glasgow. Indian weightlifter Raja Muthupandi performed brilliantly in the Commonwealth Games 2026, winning the silver medal in the men’s 65 kg weight category. In the match played on Saturday, Muthupandi finished second with a total weight of 286 kg and gave India its second silver medal of the Games.

The gold medal of this event was won by Aznil Bin Bidin Mohammed of Malaysia by lifting a total weight of 299 kg. At the same time, Moriya Baru of Papua New Guinea won the bronze medal by lifting 282 kg.

This is the first Commonwealth Games medal for 22-year-old Raja Muthupandi. Earlier, he had finished sixth in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. He also won a silver medal in the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships held in August 2025.

With this brilliant performance by Raja Muthupandi, India’s medal count in the Commonwealth Games 2026 has increased to four. India now has one gold, two silver and one bronze medals in its account. The Indian team will hope to increase the number of medals in various events in the coming days.
