IND vs NZ 1st T20I: Axar Patel goes off the field due to finger injury

India all-rounder Axar Patel went off the field due to a finger injury during the first T20I against New Zealand at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur on Wednesday.

Attempting to catch a shot from Daryl Mitchell off his own bowling, Axar threw his left hand at the ball and was struck on the tip of the index finger.

Broadcast visuals showed the finger bleeding and Axar went off the field, replaced by Ravi Bishnoi. Abhishek Sharma was brought in to bowl the remaining three deliveries of the over, the 16th of the innings. The left-arm orthodox bowler had picked the crucial wicket of Glenn Phillips earlier in the innings, who delayed India’s charge to a victory with his 40-ball 78.

An official update on the injury from the Board of Control for Cricket in India is still awaited.

India won the match by 48 runs but an injury to Axar adds to the side’s injury woes in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup. Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar were already ruled out due to injuries.
