T20 World Cup 2026: Remaining South Africa, West Indies players depart after flight delays
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Thursday that the final group of West Indies and South Africa players had departed for home after their return flights had been delayed due to the ongoing war in West Asia.
Members of both squads had been stranded in India after being knocked out of the T20 World Cup. The ICC on Wednesday had said that the first members of both contigents had already departed, with the remaining people to depart in the subsequent 36 hours.
Members of both teams have taken to social media to express their desire to return home.
“The International Cricket Council (ICC) is pleased to confirm the safe departures of the final travelling parties of both South Africa and the West Indies following the conclusion of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Within the past 24 hours, South Africa’s remaining 29 members and the West Indies’ final 16 members have departed on flights to their respective homelands, bringing to a close a complex operation that has taken place under exceptionally challenging global travel conditions,” said the ICC statement.
