‘Artists Being Unfair To Fans’: AP Dhillon Takes Dig At ‘Sold-Out’ Ticketing Gimmick
The ongoing feud between Punjabi music sensations AP Dhillon and Diljit Dosanjh continues to spark debates on social media. On a recent episode of The Ranveer Show, AP Dhillon addressed controversies surrounding concert ticket sales in India, including Diljit’s current Dil-Luminati Tour.
“India mein abhi crisis aa jayega agar isi hisab se chalta raha (There will be a crisis in India if this continues),” Dhillon said, referring to concerts selling out within seconds. He criticised the practice as a marketing gimmick, claiming that tickets are often pre-sold to promoters, leaving genuine fans to purchase them at inflated prices. “Kuchh bhi sell out nahi hua hai (Nothing is sold out). Promoters ko ticket de dete hain. Their fans, ab unko wait karna padta hai, aur higher price mein ticket khareedna padta hai (Tickets are given to promoters, and fans have to wait and pay higher prices),” he explained.
Dhillon admitted his team had considered adopting similar practices but ultimately decided against it. “You name it, koi bhi show ho raha hai jo sold out hai, mujhe batao, 2,000 tickets chahiye, kal hi dilwa dunga. Aaj hi dilwa dunga (Tell me any sold-out show, and I’ll get you 2,000 tickets by tomorrow, even today). People are treating music like a game, and it’s ruining the experience,” he added.
He called on artists to prioritise their fans over profits, warning that the current approach could alienate audiences. While he refrained from naming anyone specifically, his remarks are being interpreted as a critique of Diljit Dosanjh’s Dil-Luminati Tour, which reportedly sold out in seconds.
Diljit Dosanjh Responds
Addressing the ticketing controversy at a recent concert, Diljit maintained that he has no control over ticket sales. “I’ve been working on my music for years, and this fan response is something I’ve earned,” he said. The Dil-Luminati Tour, which began in October in Gurgaon, will conclude in Guwahati on December 29.
The feud escalated when Dhillon claimed at a Chandigarh concert that Diljit had blocked him on Instagram. A viral video of the statement fueled speculation about a rift. However, Diljit responded by sharing a screenshot proving otherwise. “I never blocked you. Mere pange sarkaaran naal ho sakde aa, kalaakaran naal nahi (My issues might be with governments, not with artists),” he clarified.
Dhillon later posted a video showing the status of Diljit’s account before and after the alleged block, stating, “At least now we know what’s real and what’s not.”
As the controversy unfolds, fans eagerly await any resolution between the two artists.
