Arunachal Flood: 84 meter long bridge washed away due to sudden flood in Kume river, 8 villages cut off from the world

Itanagar. Continuous torrential rains in Arunachal Pradesh have caused huge devastation. Due to sudden flood in Kra Daadi district, an 84 meter long important bridge built on Kume river has been washed away by the strong flow of water. After this accident, eight villages in the area have been completely cut off from the rest of the state since Monday, due to which there is a danger of the supply of essential services there coming to a standstill.

7 dead so far due to floods and landslides, more than 97 thousand people affected

This havoc of monsoon has so far caused huge loss of life and property in the state. According to data received from the Disaster Management Department, so far 7 people have died due to rain-related accidents and landslides, while 29 others have been injured. About 97,182 people in 425 villages in 26 districts of the state have been affected by the floods. The floods have caused extensive damage to agricultural land, crops and public infrastructure.

More than 20 houses situated on the river bank were destroyed

Pipsorang Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Yumlam Pulu and Tali East Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) Rughu Tama visited the disaster affected areas and took stock of the situation. SDO Yumlam Pulu said that apart from the bridge being washed away, more than 20 houses built on its banks have been completely destroyed due to the strong flow of the river. He has appealed to the local citizens to strictly follow the safety advisories issued by the district administration and not to go near the swollen river.

Demand for immediate relief and reconstruction of the bridge

Zilla Parishad member Rughu Tama has demanded the state government to take immediate action in view of the serious situation in the flood affected areas. He demanded that immediate relief and rehabilitation assistance be provided to the homeless and affected families without any delay. He urged the government to start reconstruction of the washed away bridge on a war footing, so that ration, medical and other emergency aid can be quickly sent to the eight villages that have been completely cut off from the mainstream.
