Arvind Kejriwal and CM Mann addressed public meeting in Mohali on AAP’s victory in municipal elections.
Mohali: Thanking the people of Punjab for Aam Aadmi Party’s landslide victory in the municipal elections, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann addressed a huge gathering during a mega road show in Mohali on Sunday. Arvind Kejriwal said that during the rule of Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP and Congress, Punjab was pushed towards ruin, at that time drugs had spread in the entire province and a dark period had engulfed Punjab. He claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has worked day and night to bring Punjab out of that difficult period and back on the path of progress.
Appealing to the people to further strengthen this change, Arvind Kejriwal said that Punjab should not let the good work being done by the Bhagwant Mann government stop. He further said that in the history of Punjab, after completion of four and a half years of tenure, no government has received as much love and public support as the AAP government is getting today. Comparing it with the previous governments, he said that those governments had lost the trust of the people to such an extent that after so much time in power, people did not even allow their leaders to enter the villages.
Addressing a huge public meeting during the road show, AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, "The people of Mohali have given a landslide victory to the Aam Aadmi Party in the Municipal Corporation elections. I have come here especially from Delhi to thank all of you for the way you have approved the work of the Aam Aadmi Party."
Referring to the public support received by the government, he said, "It has been almost four and a half years since our government came to power. Never before in Punjab has any party received so much love after four years in office. Before this there have been Congress governments, BJP governments and Akali Dal governments. When he completed three or four years in power, people did not even allow him to enter the villages. When he went among the public, people would stand with shoes in their hands to hit him."
Referring to the achievements of the government, Arvind Kejriwal claimed, "Aam Aadmi Party has done a lot for you in the last four years. Electricity has been made free. Aam Aadmi clinics have been set up. Health insurance cover of Rs 10 lakh has been provided. Women will now start getting Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500 in their bank accounts. Roads are being built all over Punjab. Water has started reaching the canal wells in the villages. Farmers in villages are now getting electricity during day time. The to-do list is very long. People are very happy."
he adds, "When we were coming here during the road show, I was watching the expressions of the people. They were very happy to see us. It is a big thing that even after four years in the government, people are so happy to see their leaders."
Seeking support for the next elections, the AAP chief said, "Now we have only one task left. We have done a lot in five years, but there is still a lot of work left to do. We will have to make Bhagwant Mann the Chief Minister again."
Appealing to people to campaign in their areas, he said, "You should go to your streets, neighborhoods and villages and tell everyone that this time Bhagwant Mann has to be made the Chief Minister again with an overwhelming majority. We have to get a big majority. The remaining work will also have to be completed."
Comparing the current government with the previous governments, Arvind Kejriwal stressed, "During their governments, drugs were being sold all over Punjab. Punjab was moving towards ruin under his rule. Punjab had entered a dark period. It was possible only by the grace and blessings of Guru Sahib that the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed and Punjab got a Chief Minister like Bhagwant Mann. Now the good works have started. This should not stop. You have to once again make Bhagwant Mann the Chief Minister with an overwhelming majority. Give them your blessings and your love, as you have always given them."
Congratulating Sarabjit Singh on becoming Mayor, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said, "Sarabjit Singh is always ready to serve the people. I congratulate him and thank him for his commitment to public service. I am confident that he will follow his father’s footsteps and continue to serve the people with dedication."
The Chief Minister said that the love given by the people cannot be measured by any currency in the world. He said, "Wherever we go across the province, we are getting a lot of love and support from the people. Shopkeepers are busy with their businesses and farmers are busy sowing their crops, yet people are coming in large numbers to show their support. I am wholeheartedly thankful for this love. On one hand, people’s love for us is increasing day by day and on the other hand, people’s trust in political leaders who cheat the people is breaking."
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that traditional political parties have ruled Punjab for decades while protecting each other’s interests. He said, “For years, these parties looted Punjab and worked in such a way that power remained within their ambit. Earlier, people had only two parties to choose from and both took turns in power and looted Punjab. They stabbed people in the back and looted the wealth of Punjab. Today people are supporting Jhadu, which is cleaning the political system of the state.”
Talking about the changing political environment, the Chief Minister said, “Today neither Sukhbir Singh Badal, nor Amarinder Singh Raja Wading nor Pratap Singh Bajwa are visible among the people as the people of Punjab stand firmly with the state government. The people have expressed their support time and again and the opposition has suffered politically as the wise people of Punjab have rejected them. Ultimately truth prevails and lies lose their power. By the grace of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. “People have recognized honest and good governance.”
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the opposition is unable to tolerate the developments taking place in Punjab. He said, “We are making continuous efforts for the overall development of Punjab and this has shocked the opposition. They are not able to accept the fact that the well-being of the common people and the progress of Punjab has now become the top priority of the government. Their frustration is clearly visible from the language being used against us. I do not have the experience of looting people’s money, but I do know how to share the pain of the common people and solve their problems. My only priority is the prosperity of Punjab and the welfare of the people.”
Recalling the historic mandate of 2022, the Chief Minister said that the people of Punjab rejected the power of old political families and chose honest governance. He further said, “Seven former Chief Ministers and their families were completely rejected by the people of the state in the 2022 Assembly elections and gave a chance to an honest government. This historic mandate has completely transformed Punjab and helped the state be among the leading states of the country.”
Speaking about the irrigation reforms, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that Punjab has achieved a major milestone in water management. He said, “This year, Punjab has utilized 96 per cent of canal water through improved irrigation system, benefiting farmers across the state. Earlier this water used to get wasted. Our government has built about 14,000 kilometers of pipes and bores to meet the irrigation needs of farmers and released 21,000 cusecs of water through them. This is equivalent to the water provided by two Bhakra canals and a huge benefit to the farming community of Punjab. Will deliver.”
The Chief Minister said that recharge points have been created in canals and rivers to improve the groundwater level. He further said, “This has resulted in the water level rising by two to four meters in many areas. Every rupee of the taxpayers’ money is being spent wisely for the welfare of the people. It is being returned to the people through better schools, hospitals, roads and other development works. We have also closed toll plazas, saving the people of Punjab about Rs 70 lakh per day.”
Talking about the welfare schemes, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the Punjab government is ensuring that public resources are used only in the interest of the people. He said, “More than 90 per cent of households in Punjab are getting free electricity and farmers are now getting electricity during the day, which is a step unprecedented in the history of the state. At a time when people’s properties are being handed over to select corporate interests across the country, Punjab has created history by purchasing a private thermal plant and naming it after Shri Guru Amardas Ji.”
The Chief Minister said that the Punjab Government has launched ‘Maawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ to provide direct financial assistance to women. He said, “Women above 18 years of age will get Rs 1,000 per month, while women from Scheduled Caste families will be given Rs 1,500 per month. This amount is extremely important for ordinary families, especially poor families. What is more important is that it symbolizes respect for mothers and daughters. The smiles on the faces of women because of this scheme give me immense satisfaction.”
Speaking about the improvement in health services, Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the AAP government has launched the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Yojana, which is the first of its kind in the country. He said, “Every family in Punjab is now entitled to cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh annually. Punjab has become the first state in India to provide such comprehensive health cover. This has significantly reduced the financial burden on families while ensuring quality health services. So far, the people of the state have received free treatment worth more than Rs 650 crore under the scheme.”
Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann were given a grand welcome during the mega road show organized in Mohali today. As the vehicles of the leaders passed through different parts of the city, a large number of people gathered on the streets and welcomed them enthusiastically by showering flowers from the balconies. Supporters raised slogans and waved party flags, turning the road show into a celebration of public support.
On this occasion, senior AAP leader and Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia, Cabinet ministers Aman Arora and Barinder Kumar Goyal, Lok Sabha member Malvinder Singh Kang and many other leaders were present.
