Kejriwal had tried to get the summons issued against him canceled in the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court refused to interfere and rejected the petition. During the hearing, Singhvi also talked about Kejriwal's remorse.

In April, a bench led by Justice Hrishikesh Roy dismissed a similar petition filed against the high court order. Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, co-accused in this case, had also filed a petition. A bench of Justices Roy and SVN Bhatti said, “We would not like to consider the present petition and hence it is dismissed”. The bench said, “The complaint filed by the respondent (Gujarat University) was not only against the present petitioner but also against Sanjay Singh. The petition was rejected by the court on 8 April.

Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for Arvind Kejriwal, argued that the petitioner's case is different from that of Sanjay Singh, saying that both the cases are separate. The bench said that Kejriwal will not be allowed to withdraw his petition. Singhvi told the court that there was no case of defamation as Kejriwal only raised the question as to why the chief's degree was being kept secret from the executive, whereas the university should have told that a person educated in its institute became the Prime Minister.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Registrar of the University, said that the degree has been uploaded on the website and the order issued by the Central Information Commission was rejected by the Gujarat High Court. Mehta said that Kejriwal has a habit of making defamatory statements and then repenting.
