ASC Arjun will provide security at Visakhapatnam railway station, for the first time anthropomorphic robot will be used for passengers.

Visakhapatnam. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Indian Railways, Waltair Division of East Coast Railway (ECR) Zone has introduced ‘ASC Arjun’, an anthropomorphic robot at Visakhapatnam Railway Station to improve passenger safety, security and service delivery.

The robots have been deployed under the aegis of Railway Protection Force (RPF) as part of its modernization and digital transformation drive aimed at strengthening security operations and improving passenger assistance.

RPF Inspector General (IG) Alok Bohra said in an official release late on Thursday that the Waltair division of the East Coast Railway zone has deployed an anthropomorphic robot named ‘ASC Arjun’ at the Visakhapatnam railway station to strengthen the safety, security and service of passengers.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Bohra said the robot is equipped with advanced artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity and real-time monitoring capabilities, allowing it to act as a ‘smart assistant’ for both RPF personnel and passengers.

ASC Arjun has been designed to support security monitoring, crowd management, cleanliness monitoring and security awareness as well as reduce the burden on human resources and improve response time, the release said.

Officials said the anthropomorphic robot has been completely designed and developed in Visakhapatnam through indigenous innovation. For this, the RPF team has worked for more than a year under the guidance of senior railway and security officials.
