ASEAN Cup semifinals: Singapore 0-0 Vietnam

Singapore have not beaten Vietnam since the 1998 Tiger Cup (now ASEAN Cup) final, with a head-to-head record of four wins, nine draws, and seven losses.

This time, when the two teams meet again in the first leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup, Singapore are confident in two things. First, they have the advantage of home ground and have not lost when playing at the Jalan Besar Stadium where artificial grass is used. Second, as the underdogs, Singapore have players who can create surprises through counter-attacking plays.

But Vietnam are also determined and understand their opponent. Coach Kim Sang-sik said that they have a specific plan to put pressure on Singapore.

In addition, Singapore also lost naturalized midfielder Kyoga Nakamura of Japanese descent, who received two yellow cards in the group stage.
