Till now Root has scored 21985 runs in 499 innings of 379 matches played including all three formats. If he scores 15 runs, he will complete 22000 runs in international cricket and will become the first cricketer from England and the ninth in the world to reach this figure.

At present, only legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, Virat Kohli, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Jacques Kallis, Rahul Dravid and Brian Lara have been able to achieve this position.
