Extending his sublime run in the ongoing Ashes 2025–26 series, the aggressive left-hander struck a commanding hundred that further strengthened Australia’s grip on the contest. Opening the batting in the second innings, Head produced his second century of the series, underlining his growing stature as one of Australia’s most reliable big-match performers. The knock also marked his fourth Test hundred at Adelaide, a venue that clearly brings out the best in the South Australian, as he once again thrived on familiar turf.

England fold for 286 after fighting effort

Earlier in the day, England were bowled out for 286 in reply to Australia’s first-innings total of 371, leaving the visitors trailing by 85 runs. England showed resistance through key contributions in the middle order, but disciplined bowling from the Australian attack ensured they never fully wrested control of the innings.

Australia’s innings began on a shaky note as Jake Weatherald was dismissed for 1, followed soon after by Marnus Labuschagnewho fell for 13. The quick wickets injected hope into the English camp, raising the prospect of a potential fightback.

Head found a dependable partner in Usman Khawaja, with whom he stitched together a vital 86-run stand. Khawaja played the role of anchor, contributing a composed 40, allowing Head the freedom to dominate the bowling and keep the scoreboard ticking at a healthy rate.

Even after Khawaja’s departure, Head maintained his intensity and forged another important partnership, this time with Alex Carey. The pair added a half-century stand, frustrating the English bowlers and pushing Australia further ahead in the match.

As Head reached his century, the Adelaide Oval crowd rose to its feet, acknowledging a knock that blended elegance with authority. The roar from the stands reflected the significance of the innings — not just in the context of the match, but also the series.
