Ashwin expressed grief over the pitches in India

Mumbai Mumbai. Ravichandran Ashwin, who produced another stellar performance in India's win over Bangladesh, left no stone unturned when discussing the variety of pitches across the country. The veteran off-spinner, who took six wickets in the final innings, made it clear that he prefers playing on red soil tracks, which offer more bounce, than the more common black soil surfaces seen across India in recent years. India defeated Bangladesh by 280 runs in the first Test of the two-match series. Ashwin was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance. During the post-match press conference, Ashwin explained how his ability to exploit the bounce on the red soil pitch helped him succeed despite the challenges posed by such wickets. See, I think on this pitch, even if you bowl good balls, you will score runs.

But the bounce is going to be quite challenging. “The beauty of red soil is that you play fast on it, it is useful and it has bounce as well,” Ashwin told reporters after the match. “You play on some black soil surfaces across the country, and without naming them, you have to work very hard, play very fast and still nothing happens. So, understanding all of this and talking about it has been quite a learning curve for me. It has happened over the last several years. As I said, it has solid bounce. I would any day rather play on a surface like this and get hurt than play on other surfaces,” he elaborated.
