Asian Youth TT C’ship: Syndrela-Divyanshi win silver as India bag four medals
The girls’ doubles pair of Syndrela Das and Divyanshi Bhowmick clinched a silver medal as India ended their campaign at the 2026 Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships with a total of four medals in Bangkok on Saturday.
Competing in the U19 age group, Das and Bhowmick went down 14-16, 11-7, 11-9, 3-11, 6-11 in a hard fought battle in the final against Japan’s Takahashi Aoba and Takeya Misuzu.
Earlier in the day, Das, who had finished as the women’s singles runner-up at the Indian national championships this year, finished with a bronze medal in U19 girls’ singles.
Das went down 11-7, 5-11, 11-4, 9-11, 10-12, 3-11 in the semi-final against Hong Kong’s Su Tsz Tung.
India’s other two medals in the tournament came in U19 boys’ team and U19 mixed doubles respectively.
In the mixed doubles event, Bhowmick along with Abhinandh PB went down 7-11, 9-11, 11-5, 5-11 to Thailand’s Preechayan Thitaphat and Vijitviriyagul Kulapassr in the semi-finals for a bronze medal.
Meanwhile in the boy’s U19 team event, the Indian team comprising of Abhinandh, Priyanuj Bhattacharya, and Rajasekaran Balamurugan went down 1-3 to China in the semi-finals to settle for bronze.
Abhinandh, in the second singles match against Zhou Guanhong, was the only Indian to register a win in the semi-final tie against China.
