Big action before Assam elections, Election Commission transferred 5 IPS officers
Assam Assembly Election 2026: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed for transfer and new posting of five IPS officers to conduct the upcoming assembly elections in Assam in a fair and transparent manner. In this regard, the Commission has sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of Assam asking him to immediately transfer the officers and give them new responsibilities in different districts.
The Election Commission has taken this step after reviewing the election preparations so that the administrative system can be strengthened and no questions are raised on the election process. The Commission has also directed that all orders should be implemented with immediate effect. In view of the 2026 assembly elections in Assam, the Commission is continuously monitoring the administrative arrangements.
These five officers were transferred
IPS officer Somalin Shubhadarshini (2019 batch) has been appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) of Majuli. Whereas R. Sheetal Kumar (2020 batch) has been made the SP of South Salmara district. Similarly, Anchal Chauhan (2020 batch) has been appointed SP of Sadiya. Sudhakar Singh (2013 batch) has been transferred and made SP of Chirang district, while Mohan Lal Meena (2016 batch) has been appointed SP of Dhemaji district.
ECI gave instructions
The Election Commission has directed the State Government to implement these transfers with immediate effect and to send the compliance report of the officers assuming charge to the Commission by 11 am on March 17. Along with this, the Commission has also said that the officers who have been transferred will not be given any kind of election related responsibility until the election process is completed.

When are the elections in Assam?
Assam assembly elections will be held in a single phase on April 9, while counting of votes will be done on May 4. The Commission is continuously issuing administrative instructions and deputing observers to monitor the election process and ensure transparency.
