Countering the allegations of property in Dubai and America, Himanta Biswa linked Congress to the ‘Pakistani angle’.
Assam Elections: The political atmosphere has become very heated before the voting for Assam Assembly elections on April 9. This time the election debate was not limited to just local issues, but has reached from Pakistan to Dubai and America. Congress leaders Pawan Kheda and Gaurav Gogoi held a press conference and accused Rinki Bhuyan Sarma, wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, of having property in Dubai and a company in America.

Countering these allegations, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma linked it to the ‘Pakistani angle’. He said that the entire material used in the Congress press conference was taken from social media groups of Pakistan. According to Sarma, in the last 10 days, 11 talk shows regarding Assam elections were broadcast on Pakistani channels, which had never happened before.
The CM claimed that support for Congress was openly expressed in these talk shows and a similar narrative was seen in the press conferences also. He said that legal agencies should also pay attention to these facts while investigating this case. Sarma warned that trying to influence elections through fake documents is a serious crime. He said that there is a provision for strict punishment for this in the Indian Justice Code, which can include even life imprisonment.
Meanwhile, his wife Rinki Bhuiyan Sarma has lodged an FIR in this matter. CM expressed confidence that the police will conduct a fair investigation and take strict action. Whereas Congress leader Pawan Kheda is firm on his allegations. He raised the question whether Himanta Biswa Sarma is clearly denying these allegations? Kheda said that the party has more evidence, which will be brought forward gradually.
He also asked that if the Dubai property existed, why was it not shown in the election affidavit. Kheda made it clear that until these questions are not answered, Congress will continue to raise this issue. Now it has to be seen what conclusions the investigating agencies draw in this entire matter and how much impact it has on the results of Assam elections.
