Assam Elections: Priyanka Gandhi targeted Chief Minister Himanta, said- one family is looting Assam
Bureau Prayagraj- Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Wednesday targeted Assam Chief Minister Himanta Vishwa Sharma, alleging that “only one family is looting everything” in the state. Priyanka Gandhi, while addressing an election rally in support of opposition leader and party’s Nazira candidate Debabrata Saikia, launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of being a “slave” of America.
Priyanka Gandhi said, “One family in Assam is looting everything and when they are not looting, mines, lands and every property is handed over to big industrialists.” She raised the issue of several old scams like Saradha, Smart City and NC Hills, alleging large-scale corruption on every front during the BP-led government in Assam.
Priyanka Gandhi claimed, “BJP had said that it has given a ‘double engine’ government. Actually this is a government with double slavery. Prime Minister Modi is in slavery to America and Himanta Vishwa Sharma is in slavery to Modi.” He attacked the BJP government for ”failing to fulfill the promise of increasing the daily wages of tea garden workers” and emphasized that the people in the gardens are struggling.
Priyanka Gandhi said, “People of various tribal communities have been demanding for years to be given Scheduled Tribe status. The BJP had promised to give them Scheduled Tribe status but they failed to do so.” She also alleged that women of Assam are forcibly forced to attend the rallies of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister by threatening to remove their names from various government schemes, especially the flagship poverty alleviation scheme ‘Arunoday’.
