Assam Assembly Election 2026: Congress released second list
In view of the Assam Assembly elections 2026, Congress released its second list of candidates on Saturday. This time the party has announced the names of a total of 23 candidates, which include senior leaders like Gaurav Gogoi, Abdul Khaliq, Rakibuddin Ahmed and Bipul Gogoi.
As per its seat sharing strategy, Congress has kept 15 assembly seats vacant for its alliance partners. This step of the party is being considered important towards strengthening the electoral equation and alliance.
Which leaders did Congress give a chance?
This second list of Congress includes many experienced and new faces. Earlier the party had announced 42 candidates in the list. The prominent names in the first list were:
- Gaurav Gogoi – From Jorhat
- Debabrata Saikia – from Nazira, opposition leader
- Nandita Das – from Hajo-Sualkuchi
- Diganta Burman – from Barkhetri
- Meera Borthakur Goswami – from Dispur
- Apart from this, opportunities were also given to young leaders, like Tanzeel Hussain (Samaguri) and Prateek Bordoloi (Margherita).

Congress clarified that 15 seats have been reserved for its alliance partners. The total assembly seats in Assam are 126. With this strategy, the party is trying to strengthen its alliance and balance the electoral equation.
