Assembly Elections Announced for Five States Including West Bengal, Know When the Results Will Be Out

New Delhi: The bugle for assembly elections has sounded across five states of the country, and the dates for the same have now been officially announced. Voting will take place in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry. With the announcement of the dates, the Model Code of Conduct has also come into force across all five states. The first phase of voting is scheduled for April 9, while the results for all states will be declared on May 4.

Voting in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will be held on April 9. As for Tamil Nadu, voting will take place on April 23, whereas West Bengal has been allotted two phases. Here, the first phase will be held on April 23, and the second phase on April 29.

Previously, the Bengal Assembly elections were conducted in eight phases. In 2021, the terms of the legislative assemblies are set to expire on May 7 for West Bengal, May 10 for Tamil Nadu, May 20 for Assam, and May 23 for Kerala.

Election Commission Announces Dates

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar held a press conference on Sunday to provide essential details regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Let us take a look at the schedule to find out when elections will be held in each of these states.

According to the Election Commission, voting in Assam will be conducted in a single phase on April 9. Similarly, elections in Kerala and Puducherry will also be completed in a single phase on April 9. Regarding Tamil Nadu, voting is scheduled for April 23. West Bengal has been allotted two phases; the first phase will take place on April 23, and the second phase on April 29.

Know the Schedule for the Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections

For information purposes, it is worth noting that the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu comprises a total of 234 assembly seats. Voting for all these seats will be held in a single phase on April 23. The counting of votes will take place on May 4. In Tamil Nadu, the gazette notification will be issued on March 30. The deadline for filing nominations is April 6. The scrutiny of nominations will be conducted on April 7, and candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations until April 9. With the Election Commission’s announcement of the election schedule, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force across all five states. All political parties will now go all out, throwing their full weight into the campaign.
