Ather Develops New Zenith and EL Electric Two-Wheeler Platforms

New Delhi: Ather Energy is advancing its development with two new platforms – Zenith and EL. The Zenith platform is designed for electric motorcycles, targeting the 125cc to 300cc motorcycle segments. This move marks Ather’s foray into the electric motorcycle market, which, though underexplored in India, presents significant growth potential. The electric motorcycle market currently has limited competition, with players like Tork, Revolt, and Ultraviolette. Ather sees a clear opportunity to expand its market share, with motorcycles accounting for 63% of two-wheeler volumes in India. It is anticipated that by 2030, electric motorcycles will achieve 10% market penetration.

EL Platform

In addition to motorcycles, Ather is also developing the EL platform for electric scooters. This new platform aims to expand Ather’s scooter range with a more affordable and versatile lineup. The EL platform will feature an all-new powertrain, chassis, and electronics, while incorporating core components from the existing Ather 450 platform, including the battery and Atherstack software. This development is expected to drive down production costs and cater to both domestic and international markets.

Ather’s Manufacturing Facilities

Ather’s upcoming Aurangabad facility will play a crucial role in manufacturing vehicles based on these platforms, with production set to commence in phases starting in May 2026. The company currently runs two manufacturing facilities in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, with a total annual production capacity of 4.2 lakh units.

With growing competition in the electric two-wheeler market, including Ola Electric’s plans to launch its first electric motorcycle by FY26, Ather’s new platforms are strategically positioned to keep the company leading the charge in India’s EV revolution. In FY24, Ather sold 1.10 lakh electric two-wheelers, up from 92,093 units in FY23, highlighting the increasing demand for electric mobility.
