Here is the complete process to get the card back or keep it safe:1. Use the ‘Cancel’ button: As soon as the card gets stuck, first of all press and hold the ‘Cancel’ button on the keypad for 5-10 seconds. Many times, in case of transaction hang, doing this causes the card to come out. If this does not happen, do not re-enter your PIN on the keyboard.2. Call customer care immediately. If the card does not come out, immediately call your bank’s 24/7 customer care number. This number will be found on the bank’s website, your bank passbook or on the board inside the ATM cabin. Tell them which ATM the card is stuck in and at what time. They will temporarily ‘Hotlist’ or ‘Block’ your card so that it cannot be misused.3. Other options to block the cardIf you are unable to make a call, block the card in these ways: Mobile Banking/Net Banking: Go to the ‘Cards’ section in the app and click on ‘Block Card’. SMS Service: Many banks provide the facility to block the card by sending a specific message (eg: BLOCK XXXX).4. Lodge a complaint at the bank branchIf the ATM is inside the bank premises: Immediately inform the bank manager or the officer present there. They can withdraw the card and give it to you after verification. If the ATM is outside: Go to your respective bank branch and give a written complaint. The bank will either get you the same card back or issue a new card within 7-10 days.5. What not to do? Do not tamper with the machine: Do not use any key, pen or sharp object to remove the card, this can damage both the machine and the card. Do not take help from a stranger: Do not tell your PIN to any stranger present in the ATM cabin, nor let them touch the machine to remove the card.
