Audi Owner Asks Govt To Increase Petrol Prices: Here’s What He Actually Means [Video]
The Government of India has recently hiked the prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG because the prices of crude oil have gone up. Now, a lot of people are calling out the government for increasing the prices quickly. However, recently, an Audi owner has shaken the internet by asking the government to increase the price of fuel even more. Yes, this is extremely surprising, and if you want to actually know what this Audi owner means by this, then read till the end.
Recently, a video of an Audi owner requesting the government to raise fuel prices has been shared on X by Saffron Chargers on their page. It starts off with the owner of an Audi A4 luxury sedan standing at a petrol pump. He mentions that the government has recently raised the price of petrol by Rs 3, and due to this, a lot of people are blaming the government, including the opposition.
After which, he adds that there are also some people who are saying that it does not matter to them if the price gets increased by Rs 3 or Rs 30. However, he then explains that as he drives an Audi and he is privileged, this price hike does not affect him. However, he then points the camera towards an autorickshaw and a scooter rider and states that this price hike makes a difference for those people.
Soon after this, the man then gives the government of India a suggestion from his side. He states that even if the government increases the price of petrol by Rs 3 or by Rs 30, it will not affect him as his priority is comfort, and mileage is not his main concern. The Audi owner then explains that the real problem is for the people who are dependent on petrol for their daily lives and its functioning.
The man highlights that currently an Audi owner like him and a scooter owner or an auto owner are buying petrol at the same cost. Due to this, the burden is only coming on the people who have an extremely strict budget.

Moving ahead in the video, the Audi owner then proposes the solution of what he thinks could help ease the price hike issue of the lower-income group of India. He mentions that petrol should be sold at two different prices, and it should be sold using petrol cards and rationing systems. For a person driving a luxury vehicle, the limit per day could be 10 litres at a higher price, and for the person with a two-wheeler, it could be 2 litres per day at a lower price.
The Audi owner then continues and states that this system could help in reducing the financial stress which the government is currently taking to provide petrol at a standard cost. He added that only giving subsidies will not work because a person who earns only Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 per month will not be able to manage the increasing cost of fuel. He adds that today, 80 to 90 percent of people in India have a two-wheeler, and it has become a necessity.

Now, we have to mention that although the sentiment behind this Audi owner’s suggestion is very thoughtful, in reality and practically, it will be extremely difficult to implement such a system in India. The biggest reason behind this is the massive difference in the number of luxury vehicles and mass-market vehicles sold in the country.
Currently, luxury car sales in India are close to 50,000 units annually. On the other hand, non-luxury passenger vehicle sales are around 44 lakh units, and more than 2 crore two-wheelers are sold every year in India. So even if the government decides to significantly increase the petrol prices for luxury car owners, the total number of such buyers is extremely small.

Due to this, the additional money collected from luxury vehicle owners will most likely not be enough to reduce fuel prices for crores of two-wheeler riders and middle-class commuters. Apart from this, implementing different fuel prices for different categories of vehicles will also become extremely complicated and will require a completely new verification and fuel card system across the country.
Now, a lot of people online have appreciated the sentiment shared by this Audi owner. But we have to note that in a country where people owning Rs 40 lakh SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner try to avoid paying a Rs 200 toll tax, seeing a luxury car owner openly asking the government to charge him more for fuel has surprised a lot of people.
