Information also given on head fitness

Cummins also gave information about the fitness of the team's in-form player Travis Head. He said that Head has passed all the fitness tests in the nets.

The Australian captain said, “Travis is completely fit and he will play. He completed all the necessary tests yesterday and today. There is no worry about his injury now. If there is some problem in fielding on the field, we can handle him a little, but he is ready for the game.”

Travis Head's brilliant performance in the series

Travis Head is the highest run-scorer so far in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He has scored two centuries and one half-century in the series. Steve Smith is the only second Australian player to score a century in this series.

Praising Head, Cummins said, “His form over the last 12 months has been excellent. He starts putting pressure on the opposition team from the very first ball. I am happy that he is in our team and I do not have to set the field against him. The way he is batting is praiseworthy. Hopefully this form will continue.”

Challenge for Australia at MCG

Australia has not won a Test against India at the MCG since 2011. The match was drawn in 2014, whereas Australia had to face defeat in the last two matches.

Australia's playing eleven

Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstans, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Mitch Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland.
