Australian all-rounder Cameron Green out of Border Gavaskar Trophy, surgery is the only solution left.

Melbourne: Australia has suffered a big blow before the Border Gavaskar Trophy, because now Australian all-rounder Cameron Green will not be able to support the Australian team in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Cameron Green's long-running back problem has once again increased, the only treatment for which is now said to be surgery.

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green will be out of action for a long time due to back surgery. He has a fifth stress fracture in his lower back. Due to this surgery, Green has been ruled out of the much-awaited Border Gavaskar Trophy starting against India from November 22.

Will remain out of Sri Lanka tour

Green's recovery may take around six months, due to which he will be out of Australia's Test tour of Sri Lanka in February and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. Considering the time taken for his recovery, he may also be out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

The 25-year-old Green had complained of lower back pain during Australia's UK tour in September. After this he got a scan done and the report revealed a stress fracture. Stress fractures are quite common among fast bowlers, with fast bowlers James Pattinson, Jason Behrendorff, Ben Dwarshis and India's Jasprit Bumrah suffering from it during their careers.

need to do surgery

But Cricket Australia said that “Green has been diagnosed with another problem in the area adjacent to the fracture, which may be causing him to suffer from this injury more frequently.”

“After a thorough consultation, it was determined that Cameron would require surgery to stabilize this injury and reduce the risk of this injury recurring in the future,” CA said in a statement.

Green struggling since junior days

Previously, Green had suffered four stress fractures in his lower back. This injury continued to recur from his junior days until 2019, a year before his Test debut.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the surgery in question is the first such surgery to have been performed on 26 patients over the course of nearly two decades. The surgery was performed by New Zealand surgeons Graham Inglis and Rowan Schouten, and 24 of them successfully fitted.

He has also undergone surgery

Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff had surgery in October 2010 and was out of action until December 2020. He has not participated in first-class cricket since then, but his back problem has definitely been cured.
