A 59-year-old firefighter died when a tree fell on him while battling a blaze near the town of Bulahdela in New South Wales on Sunday night, Rural Fire Service Commissioner Trent Curtin said. He could not be saved due to serious injuries he sustained while fighting the fire. This fire has so far burnt 3,500 hectares of area and has engulfed many houses.

Curtin said that even after this accident, fire department personnel are continuously trying to control the fire in the area, but due to strong winds and dry weather, this challenge is becoming more difficult.

The situation in New South Wales is very worrying

According to Commissioner Trent Curtin, there were 52 fires burning at 52 places in New South Wales as of Monday morning, out of which 9 were completely out of control. So far, more than 20 houses have been burnt to ashes in the state. He said that firefighters may have to fight this fire for several days to come as the weather conditions are not conducive to extinguishing the fire.

Statement from local government officials

Local official Dick Shaw told the Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC) that 19 homes had been destroyed by the fire in the coastal area of ​​Dolphin Sands. He said that the fire has been controlled to a great extent, but as a precautionary measure all roads have been closed and people have been advised to stay in safe places away from their homes for the time being.
