Australia has started its campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026 with a big win. In its first match, the team defeated Oman by 9 wickets. In this match played at Pallekele Stadium, Kandy, Oman’s team was reduced to just 104 runs in front of Australian bowlers, especially Adam Zampa. After this, the explosive partnership of captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head led the Kangaroo team to an easy victory.
Chasing the modest target of 105 runs, the Australian team adopted an aggressive approach from the very beginning. Captain Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head made the match completely one-sided by adding 93 runs in just 9 overs for the first wicket. Australia achieved this target in 9.4 overs by losing just one wicket.
Zampa’s world record, Oman falls to 104
The hero of the match was leg spinner Adam Zampa, who created history with his bowling. Zampa took 4 important wickets giving just 21 runs in 4 overs. This was the fourth time that he had taken 4 or more wickets in an innings of the T20 World Cup.
With this, Zampa has become the bowler to take 4+ wickets in an innings the most number of times in the history of T20 World Cup. He left behind Shakib Al Hasan, Saeed Ajmal, Rashid Khan and Anrique Nortya (all 3 times each). Apart from Zampa, Glenn Maxwell and Xavier Bartlett also broke the back of Oman’s batting by taking 2-2 wickets. Wasim Ali scored the maximum 32 runs for Oman, but he did not get support from any other batsman.
Marsh-head’s stormy partnership led to easy victory
Australia had a very strong start while chasing the target. Captain Mitchell Marsh attacked Oman’s bowlers from the very first over. He completed his fifty in 26 balls and remained unbeaten till the end. Marsh made brilliant shots in his innings of 64 runs.
At the other end, Travis Head also supported him well. Head was out after scoring 32 runs, but by then he had laid the foundation of victory by making a partnership of 93 runs with Marsh. After Head’s dismissal, Josh Inglis (12*) along with the captain completed the formalities of the victory. English gave the team a spectacular victory by 9 wickets by hitting a four.
