Rural Fire Service Commissioner Trent Curtin said a 59-year-old firefighter died when a tree fell on him while fighting a forest fire near Bulahdela City, New South Wales on Sunday night. Curtin reported that the firefighter was seriously injured by the Russians and could not be saved.

Trent Curtin said that firefighters may have to fight forest fires for several days. On Monday, forest fires were burning at 52 places in New South Wales and were out of control at 9 places. Curtin said that so far more than 20 houses have been destroyed by the fire in New South Wales.
