Australia new social media bill : Australia is going to introduce a new law to prevent children under 16 years of age from using social media platforms like TikTok, Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat. According to reports, this initiative announced by Communications Minister Michel Rolland aims to protect children from harmful online content. According to the report, platforms that do not comply with the rules could face fines of up to AU$50 million, which is equivalent to approximately $33 million.

Rowland said, “Social media can prove harmful for many young people in Australia. Nearly two-thirds of 14 to 17-year-old Australian children have viewed extremely harmful content online, including material involving drug abuse, suicide or self-harm, as well as violent material. “A quarter of children have seen material promoting unsafe eating habits.” He said government research found that 95 per cent of Australian parents rated online safety as one of their biggest parenting challenges.
