Australia’s legendary player Damien Martin reached coma, had scored 54 centuries in his career
There has been worrying news regarding the health of former Australian star cricketer Damian Martin. 54 year old Martin is suffering from a serious disease called meningitis and has been kept in induced coma. This news came out today on 30 December 2025, when he fell ill on Boxing Day. Doctors are keeping an eye on his condition and it is hoped that soon he may come out of coma.
What is meningitis disease?
Martin lives in Queensland. He had gone to rest at home on Boxing Day (26 December), when his health deteriorated. He was immediately taken to the hospital, where tests revealed meningitis. This disease causes swelling in the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord, which can be fatal.
To stop swelling in the brain, doctors put him in an induced coma. He is undergoing treatment at Gold Coast University Hospital. Former teammate Adam Gilchrist gave a statement on behalf of the family that Martin is receiving excellent treatment and the family is in desperate need of people’s prayers.
Blessings are coming from the cricket world
The cricket world is in shock over Martin’s condition. His old teammate Darren Lehmann wrote on social media, "Lots of prayers and love to Damian. stay strong legend" Ryan Campbell and other players also wished for a speedy recovery. Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg said he was saddened and the entire cricket community was with Martin. Fans are also praying for him on social media.
