Austrian Chancellor to visit India for the first time, will meet top leadership including PM Modi
New Delhi. Aiming to strengthen bilateral relations between India and Austria, Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker will embark on his first official visit to India next week. He will be in India from April 14 to 17 and will participate in several important meetings.
During the visit, Stocker will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi , President Draupadi Murmu , and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar . He will be accompanied by several Austrian ministers and business representatives.
Purpose of the trip
According to the Foreign Ministry, this will be Stoker’s first visit to Asia. During this visit, the two countries will discuss enhancing cooperation in various fields, discuss regional and global issues, and strengthen partnership in multilateral forums.
High-level meeting held earlier
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Austria in 2024. During that time, both countries agreed to give a new direction to relations and increase economic cooperation.
History of India-Austria relations
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1949. Relations gained new momentum in the 1970s following the visit of Austrian leader Bruno Karisky to India. In recent years, cooperation has expanded in the fields of machinery, engineering, automobiles, steel, metals, and chemicals.
In addition, the two countries have agreed to work together in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum technology. This visit is considered important for furthering these collaborations.
