Avesh Khan Faces Possible Ban After Strange Incident in SRH vs LSG Clash

The Lucknow Super Giants pacer Avesh Khan is likely to be punished for infringing the ICC rules during the IPL match against SRH.

Avesh Khan grabbed the highlight due to his strange actions when LSG captain skipper Rishabh Pant smashed the winning runs to secure their first victory against SRH at Hyderabad.

Pant smashed the winnings boundary off Jaydev Unadkat in the final over, sealing a last-ball thriller for his team.

In a dramatic finish, Avesh Khan was ready to bat standing near the boundary as the tension escalated in the LSG camp. With the team needing just one run from two balls, Pant smashed Unadkat’s delivery over towards boundary.

Avesh Khan didn’t wait for the ball to cross the line and he swung his bat and began celebrating immediately. Arshin Kulkarni was visibly taken aback, raising his hands in disbelief at his teammate’s unusal move.

The pacer got off lightly as neither SRH raised a complaint nor did the umpires intervene but pacer’s unusal move could have backfired badly, potentially costing his team the win if the incident had been officially challenged.

While the IPL governing council hadn’t issued any official statement yet, it remains to be seen whether they will impose a fine for a breach of the player’s code of conduct.

According to Law 19, a ball becomes dead immediately after crossing the boundary rope or landing beyond the boundary rope. Since the shote was cleared the mid off fielder  and traveled directly outside the boundary, it was treated as boundary.

According to Law 41, umpires can impose a five run-penalty only incases of deliberate unfair play aimed at deceiving or obstructing the opposition. In this instance, Neither SRH raised an appeal, nor the umpires also took no action. No SRH played have been near to the boundary, Avesh Khan action didn’t prevent anyone from fielding the ball.

However, some experts and fans argued that enforcing the rule could have altered the outcome, as it may have increased the number of runs Lucknow Super Giants needed in that situation.

Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders on April 09 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
