Axar Patel voices opposition to Impact Player Rule, makes striking statement ahead of IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals are hoping to win their maiden title in the Indian Premier League 2026. Axar Patel is the captain of the franchise, and he will be under pressure to deliver as a captain and as an all-rounder in the 19th season. Speaking to the media, Axar spoke against the Impact Player Rule, saying it has impacted the role of all-rounders.

“I don’t like the rule. Franchises are now preferring specialist batters or bowlers, and as an all-rounder, it affects your place in the playing XI. However, rules are rules,” he said.

He will be leading DC for the second time, and he is feeling refreshed after India’s win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. “After giving so much, there is a bit of emptiness. I wanted to spend time with my family and friends,” he added.

Delhi are renowned for changing captains, and the team has sacked several skippers in 18 seasons. But Axar wants to adapt, something he has learned from the Indian dressing room. He has donned DC’s jersey for seven seasons.

“Franchise cricket is different as players come from different countries. However, flexibility is important, and players need to adapt to situations quickly. We can’t depend on one style of play, so we have to adjust to conditions and rules,” he explained.

Axar was brilliant in the World Cup and took two outstanding catches against England in the semi-final, leading to comparisons with Jonty Rhodes.

“My job is to follow the process instead of thinking about what I have done. When I saw the videos from my friends, I realised how difficult those catches were,” he revealed.

Delhi Capitals are looking to lift their maiden IPL title, and they are banking on their skipper’s calm approach.
