Ayesha Khan Says Period Revelation During Dhurandhar Song Shoot Became A ‘National Joke’

Actor Ayesha Khan has spoken about the unexpected backlash she faced after revealing that she filmed the song Shararat from the film Dhurandhar while she was on her period. The actor said that what she considered a normal detail about her work experience soon turned into a “national joke” on social media, prompting widespread trolling and memes.

The controversy began when Ayesha casually shared in an earlier interview that she had been menstruating during the shoot of the popular dance number. The song, which features her alongside actor Krystle D’Souza, became widely popular after the film’s release, and the revelation about the shooting conditions quickly caught public attention.

However, instead of being seen as a testament to professionalism, the disclosure sparked jokes online. Speaking at an event, Ayesha reflected on the reaction and said she had not anticipated the scale of the response. She noted that the internet quickly turned her statement into viral memes and sarcastic commentary.

“It’s unfortunate that whatever you do or say these days becomes a joke,” she said while discussing the episode. Ayesha explained that for her, mentioning it was not meant to be dramatic or sensational. Instead, she simply saw it as a routine reality of life that women deal with regularly.

The actor pointed out that menstruation is a natural monthly experience for millions of women, and continuing with professional commitments during that time is common. She said she had not even thought twice before sharing the detail because, in her view, it was completely normal. Yet the social media response made her question why something so ordinary became a subject of ridicule.

According to Ayesha, much of the trolling appeared to come from male users. She said the situation highlighted the need for greater awareness and sensitivity around topics related to women’s health. The actor added that society needs to have more open conversations about menstruation so that it stops being treated as something embarrassing or unusual.

Despite the criticism, Ayesha maintained that she has no regrets about speaking openly about the experience. She stressed that she feels proud of continuing to perform and work hard during the demanding shoot. Dance sequences often involve physically exhausting choreography, long hours and repeated takes, making them particularly challenging even under normal circumstances.

The actor also shared that while she personally does not experience severe menstrual pain, she was still concerned about how she looked on screen during the shoot because of bloating and fatigue. She said performers naturally want to appear at their best in high-energy songs, especially when they are expected to deliver complex dance moves and expressions.

Ayesha further recalled that the team on set was supportive, and the presence of female choreographers helped create a comfortable environment while filming the track. The song itself went on to become one of the standout numbers from Dhurandhar, contributing to the film’s popularity.

Looking back at the episode, Ayesha said the incident revealed how easily online culture can turn personal anecdotes into viral entertainment. While she remains unfazed by the jokes, she hopes the conversation eventually helps normalise discussions around menstruation and encourages people to treat such topics with more understanding.
