Ayushman Bharat Yojana: Gujarat government has reached a new and historic milestone in the field of healthcare. Gujarat has become the top state in the country in settling claims under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. The state government has not only expanded the coverage but also simplified and expedited the process of cashless treatment. This success is due to the able leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and technical reforms in the health system.

Gujarat has outpaced the rest of the country in settling medical claims for beneficiaries under the Ayushman Bharat scheme. According to state government statistics, this performance reflects the state’s commitment to ensure timely and transparent medical treatment to citizens of all income groups.

The rate is highest in Gujarat, directly benefiting poor and middle-class families who previously could not afford medical expenses. Officials say the efficiency of the state’s enforcement system has made it top in the country. In July 2023, the Gujarat government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel took a major decision to increase the annual health insurance cover per family from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. This decision has given around 1.2 crore families in the state a strong financial security cover against serious and costly illnesses.

Taking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Healthy Gujarat, Prosperous Gujarat” forward, the scheme is now becoming a lifeline for remote areas and economically weaker sections. A vast network of hospitals has been created in Gujarat to ensure successful implementation of this scheme. Currently, 2,090 hospitals in the state are listed under the scheme, including 1,132 government and 958 private hospitals.

By November 2025, beneficiaries will be able to avail 2,299 different medical procedures and 50 specialized referral services through the scheme. Government hospitals are providing higher quality services as compared to private hospitals, which has increased public confidence. The Gujarat government has expanded the scope of this scheme not only to the poor. In May 2025, the state government launched the “Karmyogi Arogya Suraksha Yojana” for all government officials, employees and pensioners.

With this expansion, Gujarat now becomes the only state in the country to provide high-level health coverage to its citizens and service personnel. Due to timely payment of claims, private hospitals are also showing increasing willingness to admit patients.
