Baap Re: The decreasing population here has increased the tension of the people, is excessive modernity the reason for this?
Kerala Population Decline: The Indian state of Kerala, known for its rich education, health and standard of living, is now facing the serious problem of population decline. While on one hand the declining population remains a matter of concern in developed countries like Japan and South Korea, the same problem is emerging rapidly in this developed state of India too.
Historic decline in population rate
Let us tell you that according to the estimated report of 2024, the population of Kerala is about 3.6 crores, which was 2.90 crores in 1991. That means there has been an increase of only 70 lakh in 35 years. According to the 2011 census, the population here was 3.34 crore.
Huge decline in fertility rate
Let us tell you that according to the report of 'The Hindu', the fertility rate of Kerala has now reached 1.35%, which is much less than the 2.1% required for population stability. In 1987-88, Kerala had touched the level of 2.1%, but after that the decline continued. It was 1.5% in 2020 and 1.46% in 2021. Now in 2023 it has further fallen to 1.35%.
Falling birth rate figures in the last years
Let us tell you that till 2018, about 5 lakh children were born every year in Kerala, but in 2023 this number decreased to 3,93,231. In 2021 this figure was 4,19,767. This decline shows that most of the couples here are having only one child or many are even childless.
Why the problem despite health facilities?
The health system of Kerala is considered to be the best in the country. Nearly 100% of children here are born in hospitals and the infant mortality rate is only 6 per 1000, which is much better than the national average of 30.
What will happen next?
Apart from this, let us tell you that if this trend continues, then according to experts, the population of Kerala will start decreasing and this will affect the social and economic structure.
