'Baba with thorns' seen in Mahakumbh, doing penance on thorns for 50 years

Kante Wale Dad: In the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, unique forms of faith and meditation are being seen everywhere. While on one hand the various practices of sadhus and saints have attracted the attention of the devotees, on the other hand 'Kante wale Baba' is also in the news these days. His real name is Ramesh Kumar Manjhi, but his unique method of meditation earned him this name. His practice of lying on thorns not only makes him special but is also the center of attraction among the devotees.

In the Mahakumbh of Prayagraj, Ramesh Kumar Manjhi, who is called 'Kante wale Baba', has been doing penance on thorns for the last 50 years. Baba says that it is all the grace of God and blessings of the Guru, which makes him capable of this sadhana.

Doing meditation on thorns for 50 years

Among the crores of devotees gathered in the Maha Kumbh, 'Kante wale Baba''s worship on thorns is the main basis of his identity. Baba tells, "I serve the Guru. Guru has given us knowledge and strength. It's all the glory to God who helps me do this. I have been doing this sadhana for the last 40-50 years. This does not cause me any problem, rather it is beneficial."

Baba is present in every big religious fair.

'Kante Wale Baba' is not limited to the Mahakumbh of Prayagraj only. They also perform their sadhana in major religious fairs like Ujjain, Haridwar, Nashik and Gangasagar. He says that lying on the thorns not only keeps his body healthy, but it is also a divine experience for him.

Proper use of devotees' devotion and donations

Baba told that he gets dakshina of about Rs 1000 every day. They say, "Whatever Dakshina I receive, I donate half of it on festivals like Janmashtami and use the rest to meet my daily expenses."

Among other unique sadhus of Mahakumbh like Splendor Baba and IITian Baba, 'Kante Wale Baba' is becoming increasingly viral on the internet due to his different style and faith. Devotees are coming from far and wide to see his sadhana and are appreciating his devotion.
