Pakistan batter Babar Azam failed on his BBL debut in Australia. Playing for the Sydney Sixers, he scored just 2 runs off 5 balls before Brody Couch dismissed him on the fifth delivery of the third over.

Babar, who arrived in Australia for the Big Bash League, was expected to set the stage on fire, but he disappointed his fans as the Sixers suffered a five-wicket defeat in a rain-curtailed match.

Sydney managed 113 runs for 5 wickets in 11 overs, with Jack Edwards scoring an unbeaten 46 runs off 21 balls, with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. Josh Philippe (28) and Lachlan Shaw (19) were the other two batters who entered the double-digit mark.

For the Perth Scorchers, Couch took two wickets while Aaron Hardie and Joel Paris dismissed one batter each.

Chasing 115 runs, Scorchers completed the task in 10.1 overs, with Cooper Connolly posting 59 runs off 31 balls, packed with 5 sixes and 3 fours. Finn Allen (16), Ashton Turner (16*) and Aaron Hardie (13) also added important runs for the five-time champions.

Ben Dwarshuis (2 wickets), Charlie Stobo (1 wicket), Edwards (1 wicket) and Todd Murphy (1 wicket) tried their best, but they couldn’t stop the rival batters.

Cooper was named the Player of the Match.
