Delhi: Pakistan batsman Babar Azam came into limelight when Sydney Sixers included him in their team for the 2025–26 Big Bash League. Sydney Sixers shared a short video on social media, in which Babar was seen reaching the team’s dressing room. Fans had high expectations from their first match. But, his debut match was not special.
Babar Azam out on 2 runs
This match was played on Sunday 14 December between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers. Due to rain the match was reduced to 11 overs. Babar scored only two runs in five balls and became the victim of fast bowler Brodie Couch. He was saved from getting out once in the first over when the ball fell between two fielders.
One ball before the last of the third over, Babar tried to play a big shot. But, the ball hit the upper part of the bat and went into the air. Laurie Evans took an easy catch. Earlier, Daniel Hughes of Sydney Sixers was also out early and the team’s score was two wickets for 15 runs.
After Babar’s dismissal, Big Bash League posted a video of him on social media. In this, his first ball, dot ball, was shown. It was written in the caption of the post that Babar’s first ball in the Big Bash was a dot. Some people took it as a joke while some fans did not like this post.
welcomed as king
Sydney Sixers had written in the welcome post after Babar’s video, “He’s arrived”. Apart from this, the team added Taj (crown) emoji in the caption of the post, which is usually used to say king. This video of just 14 seconds went viral rapidly in both Australia and Pakistan.
After this, today, before the match, a video of the Pakistani batsman was posted from the official account of BBL with the caption “King Babar”. But, the so-called ‘King’ Babar failed to leave his mark in the first match of BBL.
