Babar Azam’s struggles in the Big Bash League continued on December 17, as a viral clip from the Sydney Sixers vs Adelaide Strikers match showed the Pakistan batter being booed by the home crowd. Signed as a marquee player by the Sixers, Babar is still searching for form as he aims to revive his T20 prospects ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

After a low score in the season opener against the Perth Scorchers, Babar hoped to find form in the Sixers’ first home game. He began positively with an early boundary, but never settled at the crease. Trying to break free, he played a short-arm shot that went straight to Matthew Short, who completed a simple catch while Luke Wood celebrated the dismissal.

When Babar walked back to the pavilion after losing his wicket, the stadium erupted with loud jeers. It is still uncertain whether the crowd’s boos were aimed at him or at the Strikers’ celebration.

Sydney Sixers were restricted to 159 in their first innings, even after solid knocks from Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards. Philippe struck 46 off 28 deliveries, while Edwards contributed 32, as Luke Wood picked up three wickets for the Adelaide Strikers.

Adelaide lost wickets consistently during the chase but stayed in control thanks to a composed fifty from Liam Scott and a quick burst of runs from Jamie Overton. Luke Wood chipped in late as the Strikers sealed a three-wicket win.

Babar is expected to see out the full BBL season and will look to bounce back when the Sydney Smash takes place on December 20.
