New Delhi: A 69-year-old man has taken Mahasamadhi in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The body of this person was re-buried at his residence on Friday. The incident took place at his home near Neyyattinkara, but authorities had cast doubt on this claim. After this the body was taken out of the grave and sent for post-mortem. The body was brought back with a religious procession and re-buried in a large pit amid chants of 'Om Namo Namah Shivay'. The family and the people who performed the burial described it as 'Maha Samadhi'.

Gopan Swamy's body was brought to his home in a vehicle decorated with flowers, where it was wrapped in a red cloth. During this, his relatives and supporters offered flowers on the dead body. A large pit was prepared called 'Rishi Peetham' and the body was buried in it in a cross-legged position. 'Om Namo Nam Shivay' was chanted throughout the program even as a huge crowd gathered there. On Thursday, the body was sent to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College for post-mortem, where according to the post-mortem report, the cause of death was declared to be natural.
Court refused to intervene
The court refused to intervene in this matter. The family had applied to the Kerala High Court, but the court rejected their petition. Information about the incident came to light when posters were put up near the man's house, which read, “Gopan Swami has taken Samadhi.” The police registered a missing case and started the work of removing the body. Gopan Swamy's son, Rajasenan, said his father had taken samadhi on Friday night and his last rites were performed at a specially prepared site, located near a temple founded by him.
