Baby John Box Office Collection Day 1: Varun Dhawan's film earned so many crores
Mumbai Mumbai. After much anticipation and hype, Varun Dhawan starrer Baby John released in theaters on December 25 on the occasion of Christmas and looks like the festive mood has worked in favor of the makers. On its first day, Baby John earned Rs 12.50 crore in theatres, thus becoming Varun's biggest opener in the last five years. The makers of Baby John decided to release the film in theaters on Wednesday to make profits during the festival week, leaving the film to release on Friday. However, it could not overtake Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2, which is now running in theaters for its third week, as it earned Rs 19.75 crore on its 21st day. On its first day, Baby John witnessed 24.97 per cent occupancy in the Hindi belt, as theaters were still running prime time shows of Pushpa 2 as well as Mufasa: The Lion King. Varun's biggest opener so far is his 2019 film Kalank, which earned Rs 21 crore on its first day.
Baby John received a mixed response from critics and the general public, with one section calling it “massively entertaining”, while the other terming it “boring”. The makers had earlier revealed that Baby John is an adaptation of Vijay's blockbuster film Theri, however, a lot of scenes were changed to fit Varun's character and the premise of the film.
Apart from Varun, Baby John also stars Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi and Jackie Shroff in lead roles. The film is directed by Kalisz and produced by Atlee. If that wasn't enough, the film also features an action-packed cameo by superstar Salman Khan himself, and his entry scene was leaked on social media just hours after the film's release on Wednesday.
