Back-to-back centuries for Padikkal – Tezzbuzz
Mumbai, Dec 27: Karnataka’s left-handed batting sensation Devdutt Padikkal continued his extraordinary run in the 2025–26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, striking his second consecutive century in as many matches to drive defending champions Karnataka to another convincing win.
After a commanding 147-run innings against Jharkhand in the tournament opener — which helped Karnataka chase down a mammoth 413, the second-highest successful run chase in List-A cricket history — Padikkal once again dominated the bowling attack in Friday’s clash against Kerala.
Chasing a target of 285 at Ahmedabad, Karnataka found themselves under early pressure with an early dismissal. Padikkal, however, steadied the innings by anchoring the run chase in fluent fashion, compiling a composed 124 off 137 balls before being dismissed in the 41st over. His innings came with 12 fours and three sixes, underlining his excellent rhythm and shot selection.
Partnering with Karun Nair, who also scored a century, the duo added a huge 223-run partnership for the second wicket, effectively neutralising Kerala’s bowling and steering Karnataka to an eight-wicket victory.
The century marked Padikkal’s 11th List-A hundred, and his unbeaten consistency has been a major plus for the Karnataka side. With a staggering List-A batting average exceeding 83 and over 2,300 runs from just 35 matches — most of them scored in the Vijay Hazare Trophy — Padikkal’s form has put selectors and fans alike on notice.
Karnataka now boasts two consecutive victories at the start of their campaign, with Padikkal’s prolific run playing a key role in putting the team among early tournament frontrunners.
