Bad Monkey Season 2: Release date speculation, cast news and story – Everything you need to know

Bad Monkey is a highly anticipated comedy-crime series that premieres worldwide on OTT platforms with its own unique perspective on Florida’s crazy crime scene by telling the tale of former cop, Andrew Yancy’s experience in the Florida crime scene (with its own unique comic style). Many fans are anxious for Bad Monkey season 2 because it makes promises to its audience of many more bizarre investigations, dark humour, very weird characters, and, most importantly, comedic stories that remain true to the show’s irreverent storytelling style. All of this will occur after Bad Monkey season 1, which has achieved a remarkable level of engagement for its audience and the show’s creators (M. Night Shyamalan) throughout the 2024 series.

Bad Monkey Season 2: Release Date Speculation

Apple has not released an official date for the show’s premiere. Production officially started in November 2025 (with Apple TV+ confirming this via social media; they posted: “The Keys have called. Season 2 of Bad Monkey is currently being produced.”) Filming was anticipated to begin sometime during the end of September 2025, or just following, with a planned transfer from Florida to California for tax incentives.

It is now anticipated that a release could occur sometime between late 2026 and early 2027. Many think the show will fall into the same summer time period as its predecessor (August 2024), but there isn’t an official date set yet. As filming continues and progresses, there is a good chance that the trailers or other definitive timelines for the series will be released.

Bad Monkey Season 2: Cast News

Vince Vaughn returns as the central character, Andrew Yancy (the demoted detective-turned-health inspector), and he also serves as an executive producer.

Returning series regulars include:

• Natalie Martinez as Rosa (a key Season 1 lead).
• John Ortiz as Rogelio (promoted from recurring to series regular).
• Charlotte Lawrence as Caitlin (promoted from recurring to series regular).

New additions for Season 2 (many in recurring or series regular roles):

• John Malkovich (joined as a series regular).
• Yvonne Strahovski.
• Zavior Phillips (series regular).
• Nate Jackson.
• Brent Morin, Peter Billingsleyand June Diane Raphael (recurring roles, undisclosed characters).
• Others mentioned in various reports include Ana Villafañe, Rob Delaney, Ahmed Elhaj, and Arturo Luis Soria (as series regulars in some updates).

Not all Season 1 cast members are confirmed to return, with some exits likely due to the story shift and production location change. The core group around Yancy remains intact.

Bad Monkey Season 2: Story Details

The second season is going to have an entirely new story instead of directly adapting Razor Girl, the sequel to Carl Hiaasen’s Bad Monkey. But we will adapt it in a couple of years (when we get input from Hiaasen) after we finish season two. This is different from season one because season one was based on a book by Carl Hiaasen.

Moving forward, the plot will continue with Yancy’s journey through / pursuit of criminals in the Florida Keys (or similarly oddball/satirical crime-comedy settings ) from the end of season one, when Yancy and Rogelio had a new case. And you can expect the same number of funny characters, along with dark humour, as well as investigative antics. Showrunner Bill Lawrence has hinted that this will be an awesome new stage in the lives of the characters; there are already outlines of episodes to be made early in the writing process.

It will still be a comedic crime-drama, with satirical elements, with Bill Lawrence (creator of such series as Ted Lasso, Shrinking) producing it.
