The news that Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her, known for creating the pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, is set to return as the pair’s coach has been making the rounds for the past couple of days.
As reported by TOI, the Malaysian is expected to return to the country as the coach of Satwik/Chirag and will also guide the other doubles pairs in the country.
Tan was India’s doubles coach from 2015 to 2019 before putting in his papers due to personal reasons.
World number seven men’s doubles pair Satwik and Chirag are without a coach after Mathias Boe left after his contract ended in August post-Paris Olympics.
The pair has yet to return to action at the BWF World Circuit after their quarter-final loss at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as Satwik is recovering from an injury.
However, the Badminton Association of India took to social media on Friday to dismiss the news as premature, and the contract sent to Tan Kim Her has yet to be accepted.
Apart from Tan, Indonesian coach Irwansyah Adi Pratama is said to have been approached by BAI for singles players.
“The news of Indonesian Coach Irwansyah and Malaysian Coach, Tan Kim Her joining the Indian setup is too premature. They are yet to accept any offer from the Badminton Association of India. We are very interested in hiring these coaches for our top players. BAI has interviewed a few other foreign coaches also,” BAI wrote on Instagram.
“Nothing is final yet and no contract has been signed between BAI & any foreign coach at the moment,” the statement concluded.
However, it is expected that the names will finalized by the end of the month and Tan Kim Her is definitely the frontrunner for the coach of Satwik/Chirag.
