Balance is necessary for Sehri and Iftar in Ramadan, opinion of nutrition experts

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims around the world are fasting, and many questions are being raised about the right eating habits to remain energetic and productive during this time. Nutrition experts believe that a proper and balanced diet during Sehri and Iftar can maintain health and well-being throughout the month.

Dietitian Nazima Qureshi explains that it is important to maintain a balance when fasting, especially between different cultural eating traditions, for suhoor and iftar. He advised to eat balanced food with whole grains, proteins and healthy fats during Sehri so that the energy level remains better throughout the day. During this period, one should avoid white bread or sweet cereals, which increase blood sugar rapidly.

Apart from this, it was advised to eat dates, water and fruits first while avoiding fried foods during Iftar. Qureshi said that when one feels very hungry, it is better to choose salad or light food before fried things, so that the balance can be maintained.

Coffee and processed foods also need attention. Qureshi said that coffee can be taken during Sehri, but it should be avoided in the evening, as it affects sleep. Processed food is high in calories but has less nutrients, which can lead to feeling tired.

Additionally, symptoms like dizziness and fatigue are often caused by poor hydration and eating habits during non-fasting hours. Qureshi advised that to avoid dehydration, one should drink enough water before and after breaking the fast. Also, eating heavy and sugary food at night can reduce energy, so light snacks like fruits, yogurt or smoothies should be consumed.

Thus, proper eating habits and hydration during Ramadan can not only maintain health but also increase productivity for the entire month.
