Bamboo Airways has added an Airbus A320 aircraft after being re-acquired by property developer FLC, increasing its fleet size to eight.

The narrow-body jet, which it received over the weekend, is part of the airline’s expansion plan, which it considers a key foundation for increasing flight frequencies and starting new routes, CEO Truong Phuong Thanh said in a statement.

The airline targets adding eight to 10 aircraft annually, including wide-body ones for long-haul flights, until its fleet expands to 30. It has only narrow-body jets now.

With the addition of the new aircraft, Bamboo Airways plans to increase seat capacity by 16% during the Lunar New Year holidays in early February and to resume services on several routes.

FLC CEO Bui Hai Huyen said in November that the company was working with several partners to raise capital for fleet expansion and other tasks.

Property developer FLC in September bought back struggling Bamboo Airways from a group of investors two years after relinquishing ownership.

Other Vietnamese airlines have also been expanding their fleet in recent months. Vietjet acquired seven Airbus and two Comac aircraft, while Sun PhuQuoc Airways received its fifth plane.
