The Chamber of Trade and Industry has objected to adult advertisements during the broadcast of CTI international cricket matches. He raised this objection in a letter to ICC President Jai Shah. In its letter, CTI referred to the second T20 International match between India and England played on July 4, 2026 at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. According to the organization, an ad for Durex condoms was aired during the mid-overs of the match, when millions of people were watching the match live with their families.
Upsetting situation for parents -CTI
CTI claims that approximately 44 crore people, including children under the age of 16, watch cricket in the country. Therefore, such advertisements create an uncomfortable situation for the audience, especially children and their parents who watch the matches with their families.
In the letter, Brijesh Goyal, president of CTI, said that cricket in India is not just a game, but a subject deeply rooted in people’s emotions. He also shared a personal experience where his 13-year-old son was watching a match with him and asked questions about a condom ad while it was being aired, which created an uncomfortable situation for him. The organization says many families across the country may be facing a similar situation.

What is the demand for CTI?
The CTI has demanded that the ICC issue clear guidelines to ban the telecast of condoms, dating apps and other adult advertisements during all international cricket matches broadcast during the family broadcast time of 7 pm to 11 pm. Also, the BCCI and ICC have demanded that all member bodies mandate a ‘Family Viewing Code’ in their contracts with their broadcast partners.
Take action if adult ads are shown after ban – CTI
The association has also demanded that action be taken against the concerned broadcasters and the cricket board if such advertisements are aired in future. The letter questioned why adult advertisements are allowed between overs when alcohol and tobacco advertisements are banned in the country.
CTI has requested ICC President Jai Shah to prioritize the issue in the upcoming ICC Board meeting and formulate a concrete policy within 30 days focusing on the mental health of children. The organization also said that the issue will also be raised with the Parliament and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting if necessary.
