Central Government MGNREGA (MNREGA) stands for Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Preparing to change the name of the scheme. According to the draft bill, this scheme will be linked to the vision of Developed India 2047. Under this, employment will be provided at rural level to stop migration and make villages self-reliant.

Modern systems will be used to monitor the ongoing works under this scheme. which includes GPS and mobile-based monitoring. Artificial intelligence will also be used for planning, audit and fraud risk management.
Meanwhile, opposition to the government’s proposal has also started. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi asked why Mahatma Gandhi’s name is being removed. It was already anticipated that the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme could create controversy. Adding “Ji Ram Ji” to the scheme has also given relief to the BJP. Hence, it will not be surprising if the debate over the renaming of MNREGA escalates into Mahatma Gandhi versus Ram in Parliament. In fact, MNREGA scheme has changed the rural landscape in the last two decades.

According to the central government, the new bill aims to fulfill the dream of a developed India by 2047. MNREGA scheme guarantees 100 days of work in rural areas.
