Bentancur had made a comment about South Korea’s star footballer Son during an interview in June this year. The journalist taking the interview asked Bentancur where the Korean player’s jersey was, to which the footballer asked – Son’s? Or his cousin, because they all look alike. This clip of the interview went viral, after which the FA’s Disciplinary Commission started an investigation against him. During this, Bentankur gave clarification and said that he had said this only jokingly but his clarification was rejected.
On Monday, November 18, the FA found the footballer guilty of violating the code of conduct and banned him for 7 matches and also imposed a fine of one lakh pounds i.e. more than Rs 1 crore. 27 year old Bentancur is now out of very important matches like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.
