Ban on Swiggy-Zomato! Society’s strict order, you will be surprised to know the reason
A housing society in Gurugram has taken a strange decision. The effect of which will be visible on services like Swiggy and Zomato delivery. ‘Uppal Southend’ housing society located in Sector-49 has taken strict action against residents who do not pay maintenance fees. Now the names of defaulter residents of the society have been made public on the notice board installed at the main gate. The move is said to be aimed at speeding up recovery of dues and motivating other residents to make timely payments.
The society management has given a clear warning that unless the dues are deposited, many non-essential facilities will be closed. According to the notice, services of maid service, car washing and food delivery apps like Zomato and Swiggy have also been stopped for defaulting residents. Also, such people will not be allowed to participate in the social programs of RWA.

According to the report, arrears of maintenance fees is not a new problem in the society. Many residents have been facing outstanding dues for years. In some cases, this amount is pending since 2009 and 2012, while the dues of many people have exceeded Rs 1 lakh. Other residents of the society say that due to this the maintenance and facilities are affected.
What powers do RWAs have?
RWAs i.e. Resident Welfare Associations are generally registered under the Apartment Act or Societies Registration Act of the state. Their job is to maintain the common areas of the society, collect maintenance charges and enforce the rules that have already been agreed upon by all the residents.

However, it is important to understand one important thing here that RWAs are not organizations that have any government or legal authority. They are merely administrative committees, whose powers are entirely limited to the rules made by them. This simply means that the rules of RWA cannot abrogate your fundamental rights nor can they violate any existing law.
