BAN vs PAK 3rd ODI drama: Pakistan angry over Bangladesh’s review, filed official complaint
New Delhi. In the third ODI played between Pakistan and Bangladesh, not only the result of the match changed (cricketing drama also unfolded), but a big cricket drama was also seen (Bangladesh won the third ODI). Bangladesh won the third ODI and captured the series 2-1, but Pakistan is completely unhappy with the review taken in the last over (Pakistan is thoroughly displeased) and has lodged an official complaint.
Everything got twisted in the last over
Pakistan had a target of 291 runs to win. Chasing the score, Pakistan team was reduced to 279 runs. To win in the last over of the innings, they needed 12 runs from 2 balls.
Rishad Hussain bowled the fifth ball on the leg side of Shaheen Afridi, which went out.
The umpire declared it wide first.
After this Bangladesh took LBW review, due to which Pakistan is angry.
Reason for Pakistan’s anger
Pakistan alleges that Bangladesh took the review after the replay of the ball was shown on the big screen of the stadium. According to general rules, players can take review only if they have not seen the replay of the ball. Apart from this, Pakistan says that Bangladesh did not follow the stipulated time limit of 15 seconds.
result of review
The review found that the ball had hit Afridi’s bat, due to which the umpire had to change his decision. Due to this, Pakistan’s requirement to win became 12 runs on 1 ball and the team lost the match.
Complaint to match referee
Pakistan lodged a complaint with match referee Niyamur Rashid over why on-field umpire Kumar Dharmasena allowed Bangladesh to take a review. Pakistan argues that rules were violated, due to which the team’s opportunity was snatched away.
effect of the match
Bangladesh registered an ODI series win against Pakistan after 11 years.
After this controversy, the debate on DRS rules and review process has become heated again.
Cricket fans and experts are counting this incident as one of the controversial moments in ODI history.
